Twenty years ago, the renaissance of downtown Memphis began with the renovation of the Peabody Hotel, and started a revival which has gathered momentum ever since. Successful projects include Beale Street, reconstruction of the Falls and Cotton Exchange office buildings, the Central Train Station, Peabody Place, and Chickasaw and South Bluffs homes, among others. This resurgence now includes arts, entertainment, sports, and museum facilities, which regularly attract national artists and events. |

Memphis City Mayor Dr. W. W. Herenton has declared his vision to make downtown the center of the city. According to the Master Plan for Memphis, the Court Square Center project fits perfectly within this configuration, along with the other major developments of Uptown, Lauderdale Courts and Mud Island. |

The relocation of the Unversity of Memphis Law School to Front Street downtown is underway. The former U.S. Customs House and Post Office building will serve as the new home for the Law School, with an opening date of Fall 2009. The school will be one block from Court Square Center, and surrounded by the Memphis City, County, and Federal court buildings and the legal community. |

With the announcment of New Residential, retail and several Hotels in developement, the Court Square Park area again becames the City center. |
